Alcoa World - Alumina Australia

Alcoa are co-sponsors with Curtin of the Bev Corless Memorial Scholarship.

Alcoa operates bauxite mines and alumina refineries at Kwinana, Pinjarra and Wagerup in Western Australia, which produce about half of Australia's alumina and satisfy 15% of world demand. Providing employment for over 7500 people, Alcoa is the sixth largest exporter in the Australian resources sector.

The Scholarship was implemented to recognise the contribution Bev Corless made to women in engineering through her work with Alcoa Australia and as a member of Engineers Australia and Engineering Technology Group. The scholarship is aimed specifically to women wishing to pursue a career in engineering (with particular relevance to disciplines in operation at Alcoa) and to promote the integration of sustainability into engineering planning and design.

BHP Billiton Iron Ore Scholarship

Western Australia's Pilbara is home to BHP Billiton's six mining operations, two port facilities, and on-site processing plants, connected by 1,000 kilometres of railway. They employ over 37,000 people in more than 100 operations located in 25 counties as part of the world's largest resource company.

The BHP Billiton Iron Ore Scholarship Program (undergraduate, postgraduate and indigenous) aims to provide local people with the opportunity to gain a tertiary qualification within the Pilbara Region. High school graduates and mature age entrants are provided with assistance in choosing a career, obtaining the relevant training and entering the competitive workforce as a prospective employee. The company has an ongoing commitment to improve the education choices within the region.

Pilbara Iron Scholarship Program

Pilbara Iron, a member of the Rio Tinto Group, is a world-class asset manager that operates and maintains mining, rail and export facilities in the north-west of Western Australia on behalf of asset owners, Hamersley Iron (100% Rio Tinto) and Robe River Iron (53% Rio Tinto) Associates.

The Pilbara Iron Scholarship Program offers residents of the Pilbara region, Western Australia who intends to continue residing within the Pilbara, scholarships per year, which recognises students who maintain academic excellence, whilst demonstrating strong community support, either through personal involvement or school programs.
