Phoebe TanAcademic Merit Scholarship 2006 Churchlands Senior High School, Western Australia "I came to Curtin not only because of the high standard of education, but also because it has an incredibly diverse and multicultural student society that makes the learning environment all the more beneficial and enjoyable. Being awarded a Curtin Academic Merit Scholarship has been such a privilege. It has helped me to continue being motivated to achieve and excel in my studies, as well as allowing me to meet fellow students who are likewise motivated." |

Tonya WilliamsAccess Scholarship 2006 Esperance Senior High School, Western Australia "Curtin has a wide variety of courses, and most importantly the double degree combination I wanted. Curtin also ran a "on track" program which allowed me to take a university unit during year 12 and the support Curtin offered made it the best option for my future studies. The scholarship that was awarded to me has allowed me to come to university and makes uni life just that bit more affordable, it has been a huge help without it I wouldn't have been able to afford it." |

Riette IvankovichAcademic Merit Scholarship 2006 Penrhos College, Como, Western Australia "I knew that I wanted to study accounting, and later down the track become an auditor. Curtin's Business School has the best reputation, and having completed Accounting 100 during year 12 as part of the Accounting experience program run by Glen Hutchings, I had experienced the Uni first hand, and that also helped me make my decision. Of course it is a great feeling to know that I will finish my degree without the debt that so many students have. But the scholarship also helps me reach high standards of academic performance, and makes me want to excel in all my units. It has also given me the chance to attend special functions and I know that there are many resources available to me when I need them, such as careers advice." |

Hussain AskarAccess Scholarship 2006 Previously Temporary Protection Visa Scholarship 2005 "I chose Curtin because of the practical approach of the courses, for the contemporary challenges/need of industries and society. Also some of my friends (who were Curtin students) recommended Curtin to me now I will recommend it to my friends and families who want to take up Tertiary Education. The Curtin Access Scholarship (CAS) made it possible to focus more on my studies, rather than stressing about my financial circumstances. In other words, it gave me the financial freedom which I think is a basic requirement for effective study. I am really enjoying studying Engineering at Curtin. The staff and teachers are really friendly. The teachers are understanding and flexible. Also they are happy to help students regarding their queries almost at any time. I found the campus environment favourable for study, which can tap the talents of the students. The best thing about Curtin are the I.T facilities they are simply awesome, especially, the 24/7 swipe card access labs in Engineering building 204, which I usually use. These labs are a good place to study on your own or with other fellow students." |

Kai KarvinenAcademic Merit Scholarship 2006 Carmel Adventist College, Western Australia "I came to Curtin University, as it is a leader in technology, science and engineering. The standard of teaching is very high and Curtin has a practical approach to all of its science and engineering courses. The Curtin Academic Merit Scholarship has greatly reduced the cost of university, making it more affordable and making life more enjoyable along the way. It has definitely enabled me to focus purely on my studies without having to worry about the debt afterwards. It has been an excellent opportunity for me, one that I am very glad that I have had the privilege to experience." |
